BURLINGTON, Vt. – Andrew Johnson, a two-time Olympian and a former member of the U.S. Ski Team has been named an Assistant Nordic Coach at the University of Vermont. Nordic Head Coach Patrick Weaver made the announcement today.
"We feel extremely fortunate and are excited we were able to add Andrew to our staff for the upcoming season," Weaver said. "With his racing and coaching back ground he brings a wealth of experience which will both benefit myself and the student-athletes on the team. I look forward to working with Andrew as we head into the new season."
Johnson most recently was an Assistant Nordic Coach at the University of Utah during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
A native of Greensboro, Vermont, Johnson spent five years on the U.S. Ski Team. He competed in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy. He also competed in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Johnson was the U.S. National Champion in cross-country skiing in 2005 and 2006.
"It's an exciting opportunity for me to join a program with such a rich history in the sport," Johnson said. "Having grown up in Vermont, UVM skiing has always been a team that I've followed and admired. The talent and leadership that's already in place at UVM made this position hard to pass up."
Johnson began his career at Middlebury College where he was a three-time NCAA All-American from 1997-99. He was the U.S. Junior National Champion in cross-country skiing in 1996.
Johnson graduated from Utah with a B.S. in Environmental Studies in 2010.
