Vermont Pep Band
Vermont Pep Band Facebook Page
Welcome to the digital home of the UVM Fighting Catamount Band, the official pep band for the University of Vermont Athletic teams. This ensemble of approximately 40 to 50 members supports the men's hockey and men's and women's basketball teams at several home games throughout the winter sports season. Participating in the band is an excellent opportunity to become involved in some of the most exciting moments at the university during the school year.
When opportunities arise, the Fighting Catamount Band travels with the athletic teams to away games. In recent years the band has traveled to NCAA Tournament games in Buffalo, N.Y. and South Bend, Ind. as well as the Hockey East and America East Championships in Boston, Mass. and Hartford, Conn., respectively.
The Catamount Pep Band has one calling - to support University of Vermont athletics through music and school spirit. Throughout the year the Catamount Pep Band cheers on the men's hockey team at Gutterson Fieldhouse and the men's and women's basketball teams at Patrick Gym.
The band is known to get the crowds up and cheering with Go Cats Go, Wully Bully and Vermont Victorious. The Catamount Pep Band is an integral part of the athletic experience at the University of Vermont.
Want to Join the Band?
Are you are an undergraduate or graduate student, alumni, or UVM faculty/staff member who plays a band instrument? Are you looking for a fun opportunity to continue to play? Do you ever get strong urges to hit a cowbell? If you answered "yes" to any of the previous questions we have a place for you in our band.
Reasons why you should join the band:
*
Free food - Let's face it, most of the band members are college students. Who can argue with free food?
* This is an attractive opportunity to continue playing your band instrument.
* The Pep Band plays an important role in leading school spirit and support at athletic events.
* .5 (1/2) academic credit is available for interested members.
You may be thinking:
1. I don't have enough time
2. I'm not that good
3. I don't own an instrument
4. all of the above
NO PROBLEM!
1. We ask for a commitment to a certain number of games, but we don't expect you to be able to attend every single one.
2. Band members vary in their ability: some are music majors, some haven't played since high school. If you can play most of the notes, you will be a valued member of the band.
3. We can help you arrange to rent an instrument. We even have some of the larger band instruments for you to use at no cost.
Schedule and Rehearsals:
The band rehearses one or two evenings a week beginning in mid-September. Once the winter sports season begins and the "play book" is learned, rehearsals are held only as needed for learning new music, etc.. The schedule for play dates will be available in the fall.
