University of Vermont

Hall of Fame

The University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1969 under the direction of former athletic director J. Edward Donnelly. The purpose of the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to the university through their participation or involvement in the University of Vermont intercollegiate athletic program.

All inductees have a portrait hanging in the Athletic Hall of Fame room located in the lower level of Patrick Gymnasium. Since 1969, Vermont has inducted over 300 members to its Athletic Hall of Fame.

On September 10, 2011, seven more former Catamount standouts will be inducted into the Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame at the 43rd Annual Hall of Fame Dinner at the Davis Center on campus. The 2011 inductees are: Regan Coffey '01 (track and field), Mike Cole '01 (baseball), Alanna Jones '00 (track and field), Erica MacConnell '01 (skiing), Tony Orciari '01 (men's basketball) and special inductee Chip LaCasse (ski coach). Stephane Delval '93 (men's soccer) will also be inducted this year after he was unable to attend the ceremony last year.  Click here for a summary of the 2011 induction ceremony.

Hall of Fame Nomination Information

The purpose of the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to the university through their participation or involvement in the University of Vermont intercollegiate athletic program.

Any alumnus/alumna, former student-athlete or Hall of Fame Administrative Committee member may nominate an individual for membership as a regular inductee in the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame in one of two time periods:

  • Period I: 10 to 19 years following athletic participation
  • Period II: 20 or more years following athletic participation

Membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame as a regular inductee is open to those individuals who have, by their participation as an undergraduate student-athlete in the UVM intercollegiate athletic program, performed at a level of athletic excellence which meets the standards set by the Administrative Committee.

To be eligible for the Athletic Hall of Fame as a regular inductee, a nominee must have attended the University of Vermont for at least four semesters and must have been separated from the university, when their athletic eligibility expired or would have expired, for a period of at least 10 years.

In all cases, membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame is reserved for those nominees whose actions, accomplishments and contributions were a source of pride for the University of Vermont during their time as a student-athlete and the time following their departure from UVM.

Membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Special Inductee" is open to those individuals who qualify as a "Special Inductee" using the following criteria:

(a) Through their involvement and/or accomplishments in athletics or athletically-related areas as an undergraduate student at the University of Vermont, and by their example, character and life accomplishments, the person set a standard of excellence worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame.

(b) Through their involvement and/or accomplishments in athletics or athletically-related areas after attending the University of Vermont, and by their example, character and life accomplishments, the person set a standard of excellence worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame.

(c) Athletic Department staff members who through their years of service to the athletic department and the university, set a consistent standard of excellence through their contributions, accomplishments, character and example that are worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame.

The Administrative Committee will only evaluate special inductee nominations and vote for a special inductee to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on a predetermined and published three-year cycle. On years between the published three-year cycles, the Administrative Committee shall not consider any nominees for Special Induction.

Special circumstances pertaining to an active nominee for special induction could make it possible for that nominee to be considered for induction outside the published three-year cycle. In this situation, the Administrative Committee would make the recommendation to the Executive Committee for approval.
